Rope Effect

~ This tutorial assumes you are familiar with the tools in PSP ~
I wrote this tutorial on April 1, 2008, using PSP 9, but it can be completed in most versions.
Tutorials are only guidelines, it's always fun to experiment with different settings on your own : )

Supplies needed:

Paint Shop Pro

My Supplies

Place the .bmp file in your textures folder.
Place the dotted_4.PspStyledLine in PSP's styled lines folder.

Tools we will be using:
Pen Tool:

Step 1:

Create a new file (file > new), the size is up to you, white background.

Step 2:

Grab your Pen Tool and plug in the following settings:

Set your line style to the dotted_4 style that was in my supplies.

Step 3:

Go up to your materials palette and plug in the following settings:
Foreground/Stroke color:  #d1c098.
Background/Fill color: #cdc7bc - then set it to null (transparent).

Change the Foreground/Stroke to gradient, using the below settings:

Gradient:  foreground/background
Style:  Linear
Angle:  45
Repeats:  0
Invert:  unchecked

Step 4:

Draw out a line using the pen tool, you can shape it any way you like.
Here is what mine looked like:

Step 5:

Duplicate your line layer.  Grab your move tool, and move the duplicate
to the right and up just a bit.   Here is how my lines looked at this point:

Step 6:

Click on the eye next to your background layer to hide it.
Right click on any other layer and select 'merge visible', name this layer 'rope'.
Make your background visible again (click on the eye).

Step 7:

Select the rope layer and go up to Effects > Texture effects > Texture.  Find the
'Grain fine cloudy' image, then plug in the below settings and hit ok.
Apply the texture one more time by going up to Edit > Repeat texture.

Step 8:

Effects > 3D effects > Inner bevel and plug in the settings shown below:

Step 9:

I added the following drop shadow to my rope:
Vertical/Horizontal: 1
Opacity: 45
Blur: 4
Color: black
Shadow on new layer: unchecked

That's it, you're done!  I hope you enjoyed this tutorial; I would love to see what you came up with!
